Meet our Governors

Aasia Nisar-Chair

I have been an involved school governor for over 25 years and my passion has always been to create places where children can thrive in their learning and enjoy their educational experiences. As the Chair of Thornden Academy Committee and with my other committee members, we work hard to support staff, parents and children, to ensure we deliver the very best for every child.

Having lived within Hampshire most of my life and working within the field of community engagement, I knew I wanted to work with people who have a passion to make a difference to their local area, so becoming an academy committee member most definitely appealed to me. I really enjoy the work we do here at Thornden and look forward to making some real positive differences.

Sue Baser-Clerk to the Govornors

I joined HISP in August 2024 as Clerk to the Thornden Academy Committee.  I also clerk for two other schools in the Trust.  My role is to advise and support the Governors in the execution of their duties.  Additionally, I am a Lead Invigilator here at Thornden, where I have worked for over 12 years.

My own children were at Thornden, and I have a keen interest in supporting the school, via the Committee, to meet their goals.

In 2020 I graduated with a degree in Canine Studies, and I have over forty years’ experience in administration, customer service, finance, audit and quality control.

In my spare time I enjoy horse riding, musical theatre and hill walking with my two dogs.

Claire Oliver-Staff Governor

I am an English teacher and staff governor at Thornden School. I have a passion for learning and inspiring the next generation. I also run the School Council and think it is important that students have a voice and feel heard. I studied English Literature at the University of Winchester and enjoy reading, walking my dogs, spending time with my family and supporting Southampton Football Club.

Before joining Thornden School, I was a Police Officer for 15 years. Both roles require me to communicate effectively with people and I feel this is one of my main strengths. I am looking for to working with the Governor team.
